Happiness was exhausted, he wriggled his tail and pulled hard with his fins, but he couldn’t gain the momentum to drag himself out of the fierce undercurrent surrounding him. He was looking for the mermaids. He was warned against exploring the depths, but he couldn’t help himself. He could see his family and friends disappearing into the reefs far ahead of him. He relaxed his body and decided to give in. All of the sudden a lovely mermaid appeared beneath him and let out a huge breath of air. Tiny bubbles rippled all around him, pushing him out of the current and towards his family. He felt renewed and quickly caught up. He turned to look back at his savior. She smiled gently at him as she waved farewell. Her image would live in his heart always, giving him courage when others tried to discourage him.
